“Developed from a schematic layout, a hospital project initially strives for a large building mass. Therefore, it all too easily risks assuming a monumental character and, thereby, lose a more human scale. One of the main difficulties in planning this project was to overcome this dangerous stage and gain the freedom to open up the entire facility based on a real and not merely schematic functional design, without rendering its operation uneconomical because of longer distances to be coped with.”
